How Many Plumbers Really Have A Lic. ?

I live in Connecticut and there are so many so called handyman plumbers. All the home improvement guys are doing it all:plumbing, electrical and heating. It is really sad Hartford has all these laws to inforce having a lic. to do a skilled trade and no man power to carry out the laws.
Every week I look in the local ad papers and see contractors saying they do it all :plumbing:electrical:heating and yet they never post a lic. number. They set up there ad with fully lic. and insured. In the state on any ad or letter head by law you have to put a lic. number.I took a lot of crap from some real meatheads to earn my lic. and think it is a damn shame how some people just abuse the laws.
My thought : Plumb It Right

Here, every form of ad must include your lic.#. That includes business cards, vehicles, any ads in any medium and (technically) uniforms. They don't enforce the latter very strictly.

A lot of flybacks do manage to get their ads in the papers but if they get caught here, it's a felony and a min $5K fine.

I don't like the idea of any so called 'licensing'. It's typically either little more than a way for the govt. to tax some activity or a means by which some special interest tries to artificially limit competition. The idea that a license protects the consumer is a joke.
I also don't like permit fees. They tie right back in to my points above. They also serve to hide the real cost of govt. from the people that actually wind up paying the cost.
There will always be jacklegs and fly-by-nights. IMO, licensing requirements don't do much to hold down their numbers.
