Are Home Owners Really That Stupid Or What?

Ok so here I am finishing a top out, filled the water lines up with air, no problems, holding pressure no leaks, time to fill the waste up and check for leak, waste lines make it to the 1st floor level and now filling up towards the 2nd floor, 3" stack heading up to 2nd floor toilet, home owner is doing his own electrical installation, drilling out the holes running the wires, I tell HO this is where the fun begins, did I get all the joints glued good, as water raises in the lines, ho walks over to the stack and says there is a leak taking place, here I am thinking dam it I missed a glue joint, as I stop the filling process to check it out I walk over and sure enough there is a leak coming from the stack, not from the a joint but a hole in the pipe, come to find out the ho while drilling out the holes for his wires, hit the stack, I just have to ask here on the board, why the hell did the ho not say he hit the pipe? why did he not say anything up until we found it, he knew it was going to happen, he was right on the scene at the moment it reached that spot, then he denied he hit it, hell the hole for the wire was right there, he never even used that hole. Why can't he have said, hay I hit your pipe, sorry, instead of waiting? Thats just pisses me off, not telling me and then deny it. There will be separate charges for the repair.

I think the real question is, why is the homeowner doing his own electrical work?

Because here in Oregon a homeowner is allowed to do there own work on there own house, so as long as it passes inspections.

It's also allowed in NJ ...but only in SFH, owner occupied.

It's allowed here, too.

So if the ho denies he made the hole, has he agreed to pay for the repair?

Course, Murphy being the lawyer he is, if the ho hadn't sprung the plumbing you would've missed a joint.

Agree or disagree, he will pay, he is a easy going person, I'm sure there will be no problems.
