HO Hires Their Own Plummber And .......

here's what I get. This is in a new 2000 sf custom home I'm currently building. The 3" pvc leading up to the "U-turn" comes from a stool flange and the incoming 2" is a vanity. All of this drops into under slab plumbing in the basement. The main plumber they hired lives about 120 miles away. He was there for the under slab rough-in, but never showed for the remaining dwv-ing. His croneies (one's a former plumber and the other is a part time truck driver/plumber) did the rest of the work. I pointed this and several other things out to the HO. The original plumber has since been canned and my plumber is doing the finish work.

I don't know what a loop vent is (not related to a snipe vent is it? ) It would seem to me that the solids are gonna get a little dizzy though.

If the home owner wonders why every once in a while a little family of poops keeps showing up at his door with towels and picnic baskets, or he keeps hearing the faint sound of "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" every time he takes a dump, it's cause he's got him self the beginnings of a nice redneck water park ride for turds.

He could charge .50 cents each for addmission and have himself a nice nest egg built up.

The Christmas poo from "South Park" might even show up and give autographs.

OK Angus, we need clip art!

Love it mike! Thanks for turning my little rant into comedy improv. For future reference, all my picts are at your disposal. Plumbing question ----Do turds get dizzy going down the water slide?

PS. I just hope the HO doesn't poop a fence post, cause I don't think it's make the ride.

OP said 3" (presumably in foreground) was connected directly to closet flange. So probably not.

Where's KillerTS when you need him?

I'm sure. It's vented further back (out of the picture). I guess you'd consider a wet vent though.

I knew you wouldn't let us down. Isn't there a vent stack (or stack vent-I get them confused) missing too?

The bigger horizontal section of 3" you see in the pict is picking up another stool flange in the main bath (can't see this part). The vent stack/stack vent is behind the aforementioned toilet. It proceeds to the roof. The cluster of fittings are located directly below the master bath. The main bath, where the vent stack is, shares a wall with the master.

The two guys that performed these Rube Goldberg feats were some real winners. One guy likes rap music and the other likes country. So while working they apparenty compromised with the mp3 player and radio. Their music sequence would go a little something like this ---
1. Crank milwaukee radio to 11.
2. Hit play
3. Gangster rap song with very explicit lyrics plays till end.
4. Next song would be country (i.e. George Strait - "I cross my heart")
5. Repeat ganster song
6. Repeat country song

When they were there...... we worked outside. We got through it, but they were unprofessional to say the least. Would of loved to give 'em one of these . seif

Re: HO Hires Their Own Plummber And .......

Gotcha on the vent stack/stack vent.

I know that different taste in music scenario. I threatened to pull off a job last summer because the c"rap" music was blasting on a couple "trim carpenter's" radio. They were also under the impression that we were interested in hearing them rap along with their selections. We were pulling home runs to a live panel and couldn't hear each other. I asked nicely for them to turn it down and they ignored me. I called the GC and told them we were packing up and a few minutes later one of them was yelling over the "music" on his cell phone and then they turned it off.

Re: HO Hires Their Own Plummber And .......

I enjoy listening to the radio during the workday as much as anyone, but cranked to 11 . Safety and communication are two of my concerns. Oh, and did I mention rap music gives me a headache . I might enjoy it more if I could understand what they were saying.

The sad part with these guys (and I know it happens elsewhere) is that it ended up costing the homeowner more money in the end. My plumber now has to back track a little and clean up some of their short comings. We've had to fur out walls to accommodate vent piping cause apparantly it is difficult to center 2" pipes in a 2x4 wall. They cut a square hole (3x's larger than needed) in an I-joist cause they were too damn lazy to get a hole saw. We fixed it btw. Etc. Stuff like this annoys me cause they are unneccesary costs incurred by the homeowner for which they get nothing in return. These guys certainly qualifiy as hacks. Just glad I didn't hire them. Sorry, ranting again.

I'm not sure what the HO/Plumber negotiation was, but if he did, I'm thinking the Harley's now paid for. What is the going rate per fitting, or is that a priceing question?

Cant beat a bit of Congo natty when I'm working. Code red gets me moving alone like there's no tomorrow.

Re: HO Hires Their Own Plummber And .......

I hired a plumber once that literally had a garbage can of left over fittings in his truck. If he didn't get the right part he went to the can and put something together.

That looks like the typical HO has a buddy "plumber" that does the work for a 6 pack and a pack of smokes. Looks like he gave him the 6 pack before he finished!!

Re: HO Hires Their Own Plummber And .......

there are guidelines for how close holes can be placed in I-joists as compared to the nearest joist support. If that is a load bearing wall in the back, there may be a very slight bit of validity to his decision in regards to the vanity line....the other line is just comical
