Help - Toilet Dont Swirrrrrl

In the last ten years of customer service I have never ran accross this problem. But now that I work for another builder it has come up.

I have a couple of customers complaining that the water in thier toilet does not swirl.

Does the "Swirl" catagory exist within the plumbing fixture terminology?

Can I specify with my supplier that I want toilets that swirl?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The current STD toilet that I am using is an Eljer Round Bowl.

Like anything else, You get what you pay for. Buy a good Kohler, or Toto and you won't have them problems (hopefully).

Re: Help - Toilet Dont Swirrrrrl

In all the traveling I have done I can tell by looking at the toilet in the motel room if it is going to work right. There is a toilet that is either Gerber or Eljer where the drain hole is completely vertical. You flush and the water level rises and takes forever to go down. My wife even knows when she sees them..."This place has one of those toilets". jmic is right, you get what you pay for

With well water, the little holes under the rim of the bowl start to clog with minerals, and soon they clog shut and your "swirl" goes away. Unclog each one with a wire, and your "swirl" reappears.

Mine got clogged up with bits of rubber from a deteriorated flapper

I am still trying to fish them out without removing the toilet

Can't say how many times I tell customers to not use chlorine tabs in there tanks, the #1 cause of flappers and rubber parts breaking down.

Another bad thing someone uses, and thats those dam blue cakes, these are the number one problem if not the 2nd for toilet flush rims clogging up.

Question for ya, why do I have to hold my handle down for a few seconds when I flush? If I push it down and just release I do not get a complete flush.

Tell them to put a large spoon next to the craper and give her a turn or two at the flush.

Flapper needs replaced, or the chain is too loose and not getting enough lift to float the flapper.

Cool, after 3 or so years my problem is solved. The chain had a ton of slack and the little yellow floaty thing needed to be set lower. If my hands were not so cold from playing in the water I would run around my house with a superman cape.

I would tell our guest that we have it that way so our daughter does not keep flushing it and waste water. I am a little lazy when it comes to stuff around my own house.

Another one for you, my wife likes to move the refrig when she cleans. The copper pipe for the ice maker had one to many moves and decided to break. Can you get a flexible supply line or is copper the only option?

BTW Telling her not to clean is not an option.

Sure you can, you will need a 1/4" compression coupling, compress one side the coupling on the copper tubing, then the other side you can attach the flex 1/4" SS supply line to it, I think there like 5' in lenght, connect other end to fridge, there you go, fast and simple.

I still tell her not to clean behind it

Funny how the with from a toilet to a fridge subject.

I guess you can have pipe swirl behind a fridge as well.
