A Great Day To Break A Sanitary Tee.

I'm on a tight schedule to wrap up my basement floor tile job and am running the floor into the laundry room.

So....in the process of lifting (or removing) the sink to fit the tile, I managed to crack the pvc line when the drain tailpiece wouldn't pull out of the trap. Looks like it was doped unnecessarily. Ok, so I quickly opened the wall to see where....my waste runs to the right, behind the corner of the room, behind a cast iron stack just beyond the corner, and into pvc...which is behind finished tub/shower in teh adjacent room...with fresh tile on the floor. Great day!

I had noticed earlier some dampness on the floor under this sink, which has a floor drain, Didn't think much of it..but now I know the crack might have been there...just waiting for me to finish it off when I touched the sink. No pipe support for the drain whatsoever.

This was the first time I cut pipe blind and lefthanded in a wall with a multitool.

I was cutting vertical pipe while reaching horizontally. It was tight enough to not reach my on/off switch half the time, so I had somebody plug it in once I has it lined up. Oh, and the fitting was cracked beyond salvage potential.

Mark must be the only contractor left in N America that doesn't have a can of this in his truck:

It is a safe bet that you will not do that again

And once it happens you say to yourself "why did I do that? " and realize the time you thought you saved is now lost 10 times over

You know it's bad when the plumber says to put some wood back in.

If it makes ya feel better I blasted two 5/16" holes in a 3" copper pipe in an apartment building at 7PM last Wednesday.

I did that once at 7 pm. And I was an hour away from anywhere. Oh and there was no Shut off valve between the house and the cottage I was working on.
