ge water heater warranty

Has anyone had any dealings regarding ge water heater warranties?

I have a customer who's 6 1/2 year old water heater failed (tank). It is a 40 gal GE gas heater w/ a 9 year tank warranty. It was purchased at HD and installed by an HD sub.

Is it an HD issue or a GE issue? I would like to steer them in the right direction.

I think they just fired 4000 people today, so good luck getting any warranty out of them.

I had this happen to me too. Installed a 40 gallon GE from HD. Two days later it was leaking. I called GE (whatever number it said on the heater itself) and told them about it. At first, they tried to get me to do it!! I said no, you guys need to honor your warranty of "free labor and replacement." They said, oh yea OK. So, they sent someone out and they did it (2 days later). What a pain in the arse that was...
