Gas Drier Venting

What is acceptable plumbing codes-wise regarding venting my gas drier to my crawl space instead of to the outdoors? Is a special box to filter things out necessary?

Re: Gas Drier Venting

There is actually an indoor dryer vent kit but I would never use one nor would I vent it in the crawl space. The lint is a fire hazard and the moisture can cause all types of problem like mold, mildew and wood rot. Get an electric dryer if you don't want a vent.

I forgot about the code question, every place I know of it's against code.

There is no way to filter out carbon monoxide. Bad stuff...Seems to me that electric dyers also utilize a vent. For lint, heat, and moisture. You should vent it to outside. The lint alone makes for an extremely dangerous situation. I have been under houses where I refused to fire up my torch.

Worried what could ignite! You need to get that stuff to the outside

The electric dryers do have a vent but for electric you can use the indoor vent that has a lint trap.

You still have the problem of dumping all that moisture in an unheated crawlspace...disaster waiting to happen.

Problems aside, it is technically a code violation.

Exhaust duct terminations shall be in accordance with the dryer manufacturer's installation instructions. Screens shall not be installed at the duct termination. Exhaust ducts shall not be connected with sheet-metal screws or fastening means which extend into the duct. Exhaust ducts shall be equipped with a backdraft damper. Exhaust ducts shall be constructed of minimum 0.016-inch-thick (0.406 mm) rigid metal ducts, having smooth interior surfaces with joints running in the direction of air flow.

Flexible transition ducts used to connect the dryer to the exhaust duct system shall be limited to single lengths, not to exceed 8 feet (2438 mm) in length and shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 2158A. Transition ducts shall not be concealed within construction.
Exception: This section shall not apply to listed and labeled condensing (ductless) clothes dryers.

THANKS everyone was for the most imformative/inclusive responses. I second guessed the plumber when he told me to vent into the crawl space. It didn't sound correct to me either.
