Flex 3" Waste Line???

I need to do my own plumbing out of necessity($$$$$) for a new bathroom I'm doing in my own house and was wondering how to deal with this issue.
I built this particular room using TJI's 12" OC and need to cross through about four-five of them. The joists are very close together and I need to run a pvc waste/drain line through them. Is there such a thing as "Flex" waste lines or did I just make that up..lol? If there ain't such a thing there should be. Kinda like PEX for drains
Will I just have to cut a bunch of sections and use couplings to get the line where I need it to go?
Thanks
andy

Re: Flex 3" Waste Line???

If its close to the outside wall you can drill through the rim joist & slide the pipe in from the outside, the hole through the rim will get covered with siding anyway, hope this makes sense.

Thanks Ken but no cigar. Its right in the middle of the house basically.
Reckon that means I'll be coupling a whole bunch a shorts together huh?
You know of any good links that describe the PEX process?
I know its easy as I've been told but what isn't if you've done it before.
I've done quite a bit of my own plumbing but I'm no way a plumber.
MAtter of fact on this job I'm doing which happens to be on my wn crib...I might post a pic and diagram of the area in question and get some feedback as how to do the venting properly. Toilet/sink/shower.
I used 16" TJI's when I framed it so at least I have nice wide webs I can drill through.
I'd like only one vent stack coming out of my roof from behind the toilet.
The sink is almost directly opposite the bowl about 8' away down the same bay and the shower is on the left wall of the sink/bowl about 3' from that bay.
I'll make a new thread I spose tonight.
Thanks bro
andy

Andy; DO NOT DRILL ANYTHING YET; get to the website for your TJI'S and they will have specs on where and how big a hole you can drill, really. TJIS are great but you have to be very very careful where you penetrate that webbing. Unlike solid the entire load is carried on that 3/8" osb webbing. As far as venting you can run all your 1 1/2 and 2" vents into the attic and make a manifold then penetrate the roof with only 1 3" vent.

Thanks Jack...yes I know all about TJI's ..after all I framed most all of this but you are very right to warn people about that as I do every time I have my electrician or whom ever hacking away at things here.
I'll have to post some pictures of exactly what I'm talking about after work tonight.
The room I'm working in is directly under the roof so the only place I can run my vents is through the bays tween' the tji's.
I'm framing a short 5' high wall right now behind where the toilet will be. I'm making an access door to that area where there should be plenty of room to work in and "hopefully" get everything vented out from there.
I'm sure once I post some pictures tonight I'll get some good answers.
I'm thinking it should be pretty straight ahead but then again I dont wanna jinx myself by saying that. Murphy's probably listening again..lol.
Thanks Jack
andy..

check your local codes pertaining to using pvc indoors, some areas wont allow it due to noxious emmisions in a fire

Re: Flex 3" Waste Line???

Boy, I bet that rolled up 3" pvc is an unruly SOB! I would suggest cutting small sections and couplings. Done it many times and its a bitc#
for sure, but when the joists are tight there's no real easy way to do it.
I expect that 3" flex pipe would be great for laying in a ditch but....I wouldn't want to fight it inside a floor. And, I bet you don't need 50' of it!
Good luck!

Squench...yep...I agree. Its only 4-5 bays so no biggie really. I was just curious if such an animal existed for the future.
Now I just need to post a cpl of pictures of the area so I can get some peeps here to give me an idea of the venting assembly. I have some idea but I'd like a REAL plumber to lemmie know

Re: Flex 3" Waste Line???

Last year I got one of those Stabila "holes in a row" laser things. It is the ticket for just this purpose. Right angle drill and a 3" hole saw is no picnic, be careful.

I was thinking the same thing. Can't hardly get anything in there to cut a hole so I was thinking I'm gonna use my RotoZip. That things a lifesaver more times than I can tell ya. One tool I don't have that I wish I did was the Fein Multimaster. MAybe when all my loans for this house are paid up...ugh.

Just downloaded some pic from my camera I took this afternoon of this job.
Maybe you or someone here can tell me how I might run my waste lines and vent this.
Where I cut open the wall on the left is in the shower stall I'm framing today. The floor joists under the shower to be.. are running right to left unlike the TJI's and its open and I have the joists only screwed in right now so I can move em' around (total access there and any heights I need to go up and down as well).Where the cut out is, is where I wanna run my main waste line down to the basement from the second floor in the picture. The waste lines will come from below the floor naturally. The cut out is for my hot and cold supply lines.
Where those pieces of 2x are in the back is my access for anything I want. (My stack through the roof)
Between my drill and level up aganst the plate I have down is where my toilets going...to the right in that space (not dead center) and directly opposite that closest to you in the pic is where my sink is going.

I also have the floor cut out where the toilets going in front and behind that dividing wall. All I have to do is lift the Advantech up.
There's two pictures below...

OK...anyone willing to take a stab at this?

Re: Flex 3" Waste Line???

I might be mis-reading your intention here. I gather the w/c and lav
are opposite each other,
does that mean they are facing each other?
And if the back wall parallel with the exterrior is the tank wall,
and the TJI location does not facilitate centering the w/c ....it might help
if you could photoshop where you want what...how does your
town code look upon Studor vents? It might be the ticket for the
lav and shower re-venting issue. What kind of shower stall are you planning on?
Fiberglass or tile?
DUH! you made another thread
