Fixing PVC Joint Leak

I am adding a new washer dryer upstairs and another bath to a house.

I did a fill test and I dont have any leaks on my work but I found a leak on an older pvc joint.

It appears to be top side of a 3" pipe, owner says it never leaked(most likely becaue never got filled that high)

Problem is it is inside a soffit over an hvac duct and is between two 90s that are backed up against framing. No easy way to cut it out, any method to cut it out would have me replacing a lot of stuff.

On thought was to cut a pvc coupler in half and try to gliue it right up to old hub where the leak was.

Is there a better way to fix? I assume there is no syringe like tool that I could use to inject glue into the joint?

I've repaired leaks like that with a plastic welder, but it won't work with foam core pipe and you need room to hook the welder to it. The right way to fix it would be to cut it out and replace it.

I like the idea of a ram bit.... that might work good and be worth the cost..

I dont have a picture but there is a 3" pvc come over the kitche from the toilet drain. it passes over kitchen wall and drops into a soffit in hall... the drop is a 45" and then a 90 to turn it down the hall. The leak is with the 90 and the horizontal section. Problem with cutting that section out is the ceiling is still in place in the kitchen and to cut it out I would have to cut out the 45 also which I cant get to from the hall side.

plastic welder though might work too....

both really good ideas.... thanks..

Re: Fixing PVC Joint Leak

I've witnessed the PVC welding process when I worked as a factory electrician. That takes a bit of skill and practice to pull off, but it makes for a slick job. Warm air torch and plastic filler rods. I've also witnessed pulling a slight vacuum on the pipe with a shop vac, and slathering the outside of the fitting with pvc glue, to let it suck some of the solvent cement into the joint. Turn off the shop vac, let it set up, and hope for the best. I'm not promoting that method, per se, but I'm just relating what I've seen.

Re: Fixing PVC Joint Leak

Read about this, but never tried...
find the leak, put a vacuum (shop vac) on the system, put primer over the leak ( it should go in), then suck some glue in..
