Fees For Non Payment

Hi ya'll,

I am writing thi in hopes of some septic man or plumber can clarify.
My Mom and Dad had their septic pumped a year ago. They went to make payment and my Dads card was damaged, so they paid cash (Ouch) Today my Mom noticed she had $175 less in her account and dscovered a $175 charge from the plumbing company. She called and they said they never received payment from last year. They tried to call, but my Parents had their number changed. They said they sent out letters, but My parents never received any. If the card did not work back then, why did it work now almost one year later?

My question to you:

Would you wait one year to charge it?
Would you still charge only the original cost and no late fees?
If a vendor charged you one year latger for a service that you did not pay supposedly, would you pay it then?

Jimmy

Contact the credit card company. Sounds like theft to me.

They don't need the card, just the number, expiration date, and the 3 digit code on the back. If someone got all that info when he first tried to run it then that's all they need to run the transaction.

Have them contact the credit card company. Let the card company know who they spoke with when they paid the bill and what transpired. Ask the card company if there is a record of the company sending out replacement cards for the damaged ones about the same time.

In addition, you might want to go and personally speak to the folks at the plumbing company so they can get a better feel for who they are dealing with. I'd be so bold as to recommend they check their cash drawer audits or deposits and see if that cash was deposited without being credited.

That much cash coming in without a record had to have seemed strange. If they have a thief in their midst, they might appreciate the effort.

Thanks for the responses. Since I posted my Mom found the receipt, so now they are going to really look foolish. We are going tomorrow to settle it. While I am at it I am going to comment on the cruddy gray fence and peeling paint on the exterior lol

Wonderful. I'm happy for your mom. I hope this was just an honest mistake.

I'd still contact the credit card company and be sure to send a copy of that receipt to them if they ask for it. Not to complain, but to get it on record before it goes too long. If the person you show that receipt loses their mind and forgets this as well, you will have a fall back position with them.

Some card companies will refuse to do anything for a card holder after a certain period of time has passed.

But it sounds like someone made a mistake in your case. Good Luck
