Faucet Stock

As the times change, the big box stores have given our custumers a wide variety of brands and models. I don't want to load my trucks with faucets that sit and take up space. I 'm thinking of stocking the basic faucets, and suppling each truck with a pictural catalog of what I will carry in my shop. any ideas?

We can't afford to inventory the faucets we install on a regular basis. I have over ten thousand dollars in faucets sitting in my garage because my boss doesn't want them considered inventory at tax time.

All of those were paid for and removed or never installed at customer expense, none were unpaid for.

I'll give you ten cents on the dollar site unseen as long as each faucet is complete and is not hot!

Does that get counted as a working fringe, to be part of your adjusted gross income?

It does not affect my income, but my wife has a fifteen hundred dollar (our cost) Dornbracht polished nickel kitchen sink faucet in her kitchen, and my neighbor has one too, thanks to some woman who had three of them speced for her kitchen, and hated them when she did her walk through on the trim, and insisted they be removed. They were installed for all of three hours.

Dornbracht is hardly universal. You either love it or hate it, which may be why there is quite a bit of it in his garage. It's also kind of like that Kohler commercial where the woman walks into the architects office, puts a faucet on his desk and says something like "build me a house around this". If you put one in the average home it would probably be akin to putting a diamond necklace on a hog. I personally do not care for most of their styling but I certainly would not object to installing it 'cause the mark up would be niiiice.

Kohler is a low end product in my world, and they know it, which is why they choose to market the high end market under the Kallista and Anne Sacks brand names. It doesn't change the fact that their thermostatic valves are crap, and I'd rather install a Dornbracht or a Hansgrohe, at least I know they will work on the trim.

Oh I agree completely about Kohler! I never recommend them to anyone. I do not stock anything other than their repair parts on my truck. I hate their toilets. I don't like working on their products because they seem to feel the need to re-engineer every new thing they come out with. Getting parts that you don't have on your truck (a common occurrence since there are so many of them) can be a nightmare. They do however prove the value of a great marketing plan. Their products stink, in my opinion, but my how they sell them! I only mentioned them because they do have some cool commercials. I have to laugh though when I see the guy flushing everything he can get his hands on in an effort to stop up his Kohler toilet so that he can get the hot plumber chick in the brownstone next door to come to his place when she's done, especially when I have clients who can't flush anything more than 3 pristine squares of toilet paper down their Kohler toilets.

The only good thing about KOHLER .... I do alot of service work that requires repairing their junk. I don't refer them, and will install them, if the owner buys them, that way I don't have to warranty them.
