Eternal Trap?
I've never seen this one before
in residential. 1¼" chrome lav trap sweated into a 1¼" to 1½" male adapter, screwed into a 1½" brass el, inside the drywall, behind the vanity. How? More to the point, why?

Re: Eternal Trap?
See it all the time here. No surprise. Old timers, it don't happen today.

Re: Eternal Trap?
This one was from 1969.
Good thing they decided on the remodel. I crushed the trap with my hand.

Re: Eternal Trap?
I just cut them out if they don't unscrew, then use a male adaptor in it's place and plastic trap after the fact.

Re: Eternal Trap?
That is called a solder bushing, back before the seventies in most parts of the country you could not have a slip connection after the outlet side of the trap, solder bushings were an easy way to make the connection between the drainage fitting and the tubular brass. 50/50 solder made it so that a minimal amount of heat was needed to solder the joint.

never seen that here, and I've torn out plenty of 60's and earlier bathrooms. They were even using slip-joints here in the 20's. Maybe the 50/50 makes it easier... couldn't believe not a scorch on the drywall or even the cheesey masonite vanity back!
