Does Might Make It Right?


Hey guys. Having a hell of a time removing the anode from an electric water heater. She's stuck 'reeeaal gooood' ! Do you have any tricks or should I fetch the big f*%^ing hammer?

long piece of 1.5" steel pipe as a breaker bar......or a impact gun with a compressor works too if space is tight

That's because you're not supposed to remove them.

Okay, got it.

I saw an "anode chain" for sale at the one HVAC supply house where I buy some stuff. It was just a bunch of chain links hanging off a pipe plug, from the looks of it. I guess that would be good for the water heaters that get jammed in under stairways and such.

When it gets to the point you need to replace anode rod in a tank, thats the time to replace the darn water heater anyways. Thats my logic, take it or leave it, it just makes sense.

I have replaced anode rods in some large water heaters more than once and the tanks are still going leak free. It's just the water chemistry. If you run them at lower than maximum settings and flush them often, it isn't uncommon to get twice their listed life.
