Cutting Oil Taste

I am in the process of building a new home. We drilled the well back in May and I put down some PVC pipe above ground to a garden valve to have water on the job. Water tasted great. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago.

We installed the water under ground (PVC), this is where I cut and threaded a 3/4 galv pipe riser for the hose bib. Covered everything up and flushed the line. I have since flushed this line with hundreds of gallons of water but cannot rid the taste or smell of the cutting oil.

I am considering removing the galv pipe and replacing with PVC. But, I am worried that this cutting oil has diffused all through the PVC pipe and mabe attached to it??

Have I screwed the pooch? What should I do?

Thanks
Lew

Re: Cutting Oil Taste

Just inject about 20 gal of gasoline into the line and that'll clean the oil out Don't ask me how to get the gas taste out though. No, really, that's a good question
but if it were me, I'd just replace that stuff with PVC. It lasts longer anyway, and I doubt the oil will stick to the PVC very long

Re: Cutting Oil Taste

Have your well water tested, maybe bad seal on the pump. Is there any way to get a sample before the hosebib?

Re: Cutting Oil Taste

Good thought on the pump, that oil taste shouldn't last that long from a small section of galvanized like that.

Re: Cutting Oil Taste

Turn the well pump off and chlorinate the line from the pump out.

Re: Cutting Oil Taste

Thanks for the replies. The pipe in question is approximately 270 feet from the well. While I had the water running and the pump had turned on I took a sample from the bib located just out of the well head. No oil taste. I am completely baffled why this cutting oil would still be present. Perhaps I will take Killertoilet's advise and put some bleach in the service line. I'll let you know what happens next..

He didn't say "put some bleach in the line"- he said "have the line chlorinated". One is a 1/2-azzed attempt to fix the problem, the other is a solution using a professional service to correct the problem. I'm assuming you can guess which is which
