Question

Cracks In Tub/shower Floor

This is my first post, so bear with me.
We had licensed plumbers install our one piece tub and shower unit.
After just a couple of showers we discovered cracks in the floor of the unit. We purchased a fiberglass repair kit and will use it, but my question is: Is there something typically placed under the floor of the unit to prevent movement - and cracking?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Cracks In Tub/shower Floor

did he use structolite(spelled wrong) under the unit? most fiberglass pans or full stalls need to be set into a bed of something that will mold to it, and keep it from flexing as you stand on it. my plumber uses something he calls structolite. it's white, kinda like thick plaster, but has strands of something in it to keep it from cracking and make it stronger.

if your plumber didn't put anything underneath it, then you'll have cracks and it won't be fixed by a repair kit. if you step on the floor of the tub and it flexes, then he didn't do it right.

Thanks for the information, Dan!

I'll see if I can get some structolite to fill in under the unit.

interesting dan i thought we were the only ones useing structolite. we bed everything except cast iron in it. hey builder you can dump the problem back on the manufacture as a warrenty problem but before i fixed it myself there are companys that specialize in those repairs and i've always found them affordable. call a shower door co for a referal they damage stuff all the time

Good luck trying to do that. Read the fine print, you may have voided the warranty by not using the structo-lite or equivalent.
