Capa Sewer
Hi all,
Got a room I will be doing some work on and it was originally built as a bathroom. I'll skip the copper, but there are 3 urinals and 2 toilets ready to go. It was installed about 20 years ago and has never been used. They decided to move the bathroom somewhere else. That room needs to get gutted. Client informed me that not too long ago when there was heavy rains, the line backed up on to the slab floor. The toilets are 2 feet apart and the vent line (& clean out) are right behind that on out side wall as normal! Client wants to seal that line off. The rubber plug that was used does not hold, and most likley will fail in the next 20 years. The lines are cast. There are no threads visable on the 4" and even if we jack hammer it's going to be a PITA top get down below the urinal tee, cut it and clamp it shut, besides the client in no way wants use a rubber cap. This lijne is on a septic tank, and capping it off more closer to the tank is not an option. What do you all think? |

Re: Capa Sewer
From what i understand what your saying they want to remove all the fixtures , right ?And the wall is going to remain in place ? can't you cap off the urinal lines in the wall using a pvc cap or copper cap if thats the type of material that was used for the urinals and on the w.c. cap them off just under the slab about 3" using the dynamite method or a no hub band with a C.I cap.

Re: Capa Sewer
I seriously think this guy wants me or someone to weld the 4" line (before the tee and vent) shut. I was planning on doing what you said, he also mentioned pouring either concrete or some epoxy in there to permanantly seal it shut. I guess they are going to make it the computer server room, and they don't want any chance of waste backing up.

Re: Capa SewerQuote:
then fill the rest up with cement that way if they ever want to use it again all they have to do is chip it out , I've done a few that way myself , I would also pull measurements on everything i capped off and note it on my work order in case down the road he calls you back to have the fixtures reinstalled . |
