Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

gents, I'm not a plumber here nor is my application for plumbing. I'm looking for a length of bronze pipe with a 1-1/8" I.D approximately 2' long with a 3" flange on the end. I'm not up to speed on pipe and fitting parts, if something like this can be made with of the shelf parts that would be great. TIA

A Mueller Brass co. figure F-940 flange for 1" copper pipe would give you a 3-7/8" flange, and you could solder whatever length of copper you wanted into it.

Re: Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

thanx for the links, couldn't quite find what i need, I'm redoing the upper rudder bushing and port on my sailboat, skeg hung rudder with structurely bonded in port with above the water line bronze gland nut that is seized, I want to make a bronze tube with enough sidewall thickness to drill and tap in a ss zerk with a 3" flange with a o ring grove top and bottom, it'll drop down and over rudder shaft from the cockpit sealed and bolted to cockpit sole. prepreg epoxy 4" tape wrap to structurelly bond upper tube to port for a maintainence and leak free rudder

Can't you get something through a marine supplier that is designed for this purpose?

Re: Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

yeah, but there are 2 issues with tiller sail boat steering I'm trying to kill with one stone, sealing from the bottom up, and from the top down while maintaining upperbearing surface. and there really isnt and a off the shelf solution, the alternative is to replace what's there now with similar items to the tune of about $700 and still have to deal with stuffing box packing and bilge water. with a slightly oversized tube and flange bonded to the port and sole there is no water entry and the upper o ring will be easily replaceable, the lower o ring will just be for indexing and aligning for install and will not need accessing again. There has to be something out there like this without having it machined from billet, forget it

Re: Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

For me machining it would be easier than searching for it, but I have easy access to the machinery and the ability to operate it, and aluminum would be a better material weight wise.

Re: Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

I wouldn't hazard a guess, I'd contact the manufacturer for the exact specs.

You would be much better off dealing with someone local to you, where you can talk to them face to face and discuss exactly what you want. I wouldn't even consider building a race car chassis from someone else's CAD drawings without being able to discuss it with them in person.

A sail boat is not quite a race car though.

So what?

The point is you are putting someone at risk if the product fails, granted a sailboat can't go 100 MPH, but one you can't steer can still get sunk if it hits something.

Probably not, it isn't a pipe size used in plumbing, where pipe size goes from 1" ID to the next size being 1-1/4" ID.

Re: Bronze Or Ss Pipe And Flange

Not to talk boat shop in the plumbing forum, but I got it all sorted out, used that frozen gland nut to make an upper bushing, everything is put back together smooth as silk autopilot hooked back up.

what I discovered by accident while torching, cursing throwing and pipe wrenching on that siezed bronze fitting was I grabbed a can of sawblade pitch and tar remover (only thing within grasp) to clean up all that old gummy flax stuffing and to my suprise like magic it loosened everything up, siezed bronze fittings and pitch and tar spray works like a charm.
