Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
I have a couple jobs that I need to bust up the concrete floor in order to move the drains. Just wondering what your process is and what kind of power tools work best.
Thanks

Agree ^^^
Rent a large saw, rent a large jack hammer and a few neighbor boys for the labor; this job is brainless and time consuming. If you're cutting heat tubing (as I did on my last job like this) also rent a smaller hammer to chip around the tubes to couple them after. |

If you are doing this indoors try to open a window and have someone with a garden hose helping you............The dust and fumes from a concrete saw indoors can be brutal.

Re: Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
I would avoid dry cutting inside, the dust generated is going to be a major mess. Either wet cut or no cut--just bust it up (with a sledge or electric hammer) and patch.

Cutting makes too much dust.

Yes what they said. If dust is a problem just take the walls down see....
There is more profit in the end.

I will wet cut the floor to keep the dust down. Have a shop vac suck up the water as you are cutting.

Re: Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
If you only need a small area demo'd, use an sds drill and drill holes about 6 inches apart around the perimiter. Then use the jackhammer to bust out inside the holes. We have done this many times for installing footer pads on remodels. I agree with the saw/dust. It can get unbearable!

Re: Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
I learned a nifty trick from my old plumber buddy. If he was excavating a trench for a drain he would start with his jackhammer and make a hole about a foot square, then remove the sand/dirt under where he is going and use a sledge to bust out the concrete. Once you have the dirt gone from where you want to go, the concrete busts up pretty easy.

Re: Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
Sawcut with water. Then cross cut into squares. Then drive a tap-con in the first block. Use a claw hammer on the tap-con to pull the first square of slab up.

Re: Best Way To Bust Up Concrete Floor
Here's an interesting product: http://www.archerusa.com/
It apparently expands and causes a pressure of around 20000 psi that will cause concrete to buckle. I don't know how well it would work for you, but drilling the holes you'd need with a hammer drill will produce vastly less dust and noise than a saw or jackhammer. |
