Bathroom Sink Question

I'd like to get a new sink and faucet set for my mother for Christmas (I know, but what do you get an 81 year old Mom with 4 kids?) I thought I would get the new sink and faucet and have all ready to make the switch on Christmas Eve while she is out for an hour or so. Here present sink has the stainless trim ring around it. The one I wanted to get will probably be a self rimming.
Though I've installed both, it has been a while and I can't remember if a self-rimming is designed to fit in the hole. I won't have time to make a modified cut-out on that night, so just wondering what I can expect.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Are we still allowed to say Thanksgiving or have they changed all that too?

Re: Bathroom Sink Question

Pretty sure I'm correct in saying the old cast sink is a little smaller than today's standard stainless. Look under and make sure ya have the space between the cab and sink to cut a little out and have the jigsaw ready, shouldn't take but a minute to adjust the opening. I think it's about a 1/2 inch dif, but I'd check before ya cut......I guess that should go unsaid.....sorry.

Open the sink box and take out the template.

Re: Bathroom Sink Question

I would buy a lever type faucet, older folks don't like to fiddle with two controls. If arthritis exsists now or could be a factor in the future, lever controls are easier to operate.

Re: Bathroom Sink Question

Yup, the lever faucet makes sense. I guess I'll get a sink a little larger than what she has and cut a new hole. The area where the trim ring has been is probably a little funky anyway.
Thanks.
