Basement Toilet Flange

Im no plumber. I typically delve in cosmetic upgrades and restoration but I got a small flooring job from a gal, in a basement bathroom. the problem is when the toilet came up it brought with it some of the cast toilet flange. The part that is destroyed is the closet bolt section that mounts the toilet. Im trying to figure out how to either repair this flange using a patch kit or how to replace the flange completely. this is a cast flange mounted to a cast drain pipe. any help guys? thank you!

Pretty easy fix, break out the old one and yarn and pour a new one to replace it.

I suppose my disclaimer was the question marks. I'll humbly back out of the plumbing forum now

I'm not questioning you about this but haven't I seen these things in the big box stores around here? If so, how can they sell them if they aren't code compliant? (I supposed that's a figurative question)

Re: Basement Toilet Flange

instead of replacing the whole unit due to a small broken section, I was considering getting a repair patch, drilling the existing flange and riveting the repar section too it. also if the iron were too soft and brittle to hold rivets how about drilling, tapping and bolting the repair section directly to it? any thoughts?

Re: Basement Toilet Flange

I've used one of these before with success. The wood aroound the flange has to be solid. If it is concrete you would have to use concrete fastener screws screws to fasten it down. Hope this helps...........

Re: Basement Toilet Flange

Thats what I got. Ive used them on above grade bathrooms, where they slide under the ex. flange and screw to the plywood. On the concrete I was thinking it would just have to be tapconed into the 'crete.

For the same reason that the ones in Cook Co sell romex even though you can't install it in the county.

Kind of. But there's a difference in selling something that's not compliant in Cook but can be used in surrounding counties and selling something that's a violation in all of Illinois. No?

Just doesn't m'e aense they'd be allowed to sell them. Just like certain fireworks.

There is no law against selling something that is not code approved, it is up to the installer to know. They sell all sorts of stuff that is not code compliant.
