Apprentice Test
I have a son in champaign IL that is going to take the plumbers aptitude test in March. Jacob is a hard worker and has been around construction his whole life( i'm a drywall contractor,) the problem is that he has never tested well. He is a great hands on person and learns quickly, but he's very nervous about the test. He's 22 and has a wife and 5mo. old baby, the union job would be great for him. He's the kind of guy that would stick with a job for 30-40 yrs and not get antsy ft. like his dad. Can anyone give me an idea what is on the test and how difficult it is? Should he be so nervous? Thank-you,
Robert |

Re: Apprentice TestQuote:
Hi Drywaller,You're son has passed it already , Sounds like a great kid!! I wish more kids were going into the building trades , every young person who wants advice , i tell them college is great but make sure you learn a building trade first !! Who's giving the test ,The state or the union hall? The test isn't that bad, very basic nothing to be nervouse about, a little math, english etc things he already knows i'm sure, what he may want to do is go to the public library and look there for books on aptitude tests they may even have a practice test he can take in the book, he can even check the books out and take them home and relax !! A little in sight if i may, If for some strang reason he doesn't pass, It may not be him , Make sure he questions the reason why he didn't pass, Being a former union man which i still think is the only way to work, you have to watch out for the clicks in it , because they'll be the ones passing the test, but just sitting here thinking about it i guess thats anywheres.Good luck to your son Try to send these jobs verseas!! |

Re: Apprentice Test
Tell your son not to be nervous. If I were young and in his position, living in a union town like C-U, I'd take all the tests- plumbers, sprinkler fitters, tinners, electricians, insulators, carpenters, etc. He will have a better chance. What does he have to lose?
I was HVAC superintendent for E.L.Pruitt Company on the Animal Sciences Lab in 1990. University of Illinois is a great place to work. |

Re: Apprentice Test
Thanks for your kind words and advice. He is a great kid, his main fault is that he does not want to be a drywaller.lol He was actually working on a job when the union person who gives the test told him he should come and take the test because he thought he was a nice kid and a hard worker. So I told Jake to get there early and re-introduce himself and thank him for suggesting that he take the test. couldn't hurt anyway. I'll let you know how he does. It's in a coulple of wks. thanks again, Robert
