Air In Lines After Work Done/air Volume Diaphram ?

I did some r& r work for a HO that amounted to changing old pipes to new ones. After I was finished everything was ok. two days later HO calls and says that when he opens a faucet , it runs good pressure for a short while and then gives off a spurt of air and then continues running normally.

In looking at the pump system this is what he has: Shallow well Gould with an older air volume diaphram set up running from the suction line in front of the pump down to the diaphram mounted on the pressure tank; on the back top of the tank (apprx. 20 gallon tank) is a shraeder valve/tire valve.

I speaking with the HO he says the only changes that have been made is that he wanted more pressure at the faucets and hence increased the pressure swith setting from the norm 20-40 psi to 28-48 cut in & out. Does this older type system work like a new bladder type where as you have to inject air into or let out accordingly via the shraeder ? Can you GURUS help this puzzling question; and Oover time how does the diaphram work/effect this, if at all ???. Thanks for the help Gents.. JIM

I have not worked on one of these in some time, say 20 years.
Yea it could be the pressure increase, but to be honest with you I would pull that tank out and install a bladder type.

I couldn't agree with you more, however, you know how customers can be...... When the time comes that is what he will get -- an air bladder set up that will serve his needs better and be as trouble free as possible.
Do you know how the diaphram works in conjunction with the tank, or what purpose the tire valve on the tank is for ?
