Question

Air Bubble Trouble

A friend of mine has a problem with air in his water every morning. The system is well fed, up a 40 foot hill to the house. A separate large garage with an apartment was added to the system. A third building was then added to the system. It is a guest house which is about 500 ft from the well head. Both the garage and the guest house have their own pressure tanks but no pressure switch. The pressure switch is in the main house and there are no flow valves except in the well. Both the garage and the guest house tap in to the main under ground pipe at different points.
Air appears in the line at the main house whenever the water isn't used for a few hours.
I don't know if air also is getting in to the guest house (it is only roughed in) and there isn't any air in the garage.
If any of you have any theories as to how air is getting in I sure would like to hear them.

Re: Air Bubble Trouble

possible leak at pitless adapter,if casing above grade. or leak in well piping, can air test lines. possible check valves not holding and water bleeding back down well. I would leave pump off for a while & then turn the it on & listen to the piping entering the house if you hear gurgling there is a leak someplace before the main house. personly I would feed the main house 1st then the other buildings. too many connections b4 the press switch.

Re: Air Bubble Trouble

scott is on track. a simple way to isolate your house would be to install a spring type check valve at the entry. At least you would know that the problem is downstream.
