Advice On Low Pressure Well Problem
I'm building a pole barn in the sticks and the home owner has a shallow 28' well which very low water pressure. He seems to think the well is dry, so I looked at it to give him my impressions (I need the water pressure for cleaning concrete tools soon). There was a valve going to the house, so I closed it and the pump never built pressure. After opening the port on the top, some pressure was evident, maybe 20psi and a little volume (he has a small 3-5gallon pressure tank). The front of the pump, the jet part, was very hot-so hot that I couldn't keep my hand there. Pretty sure it was running constantly.
Any idea on the cause? Is it possible the impellers get screwed up inside the housing and never generate enough pressure or volume to pull the water from the well? At 28', is that still a 'shallow' well-I seemed to recall 25' ratings for shallow pumps (does the extra 10% fry the pump since it works harder)? |
