not a plumber here but working on a project that is exactly what is involved here.

killer referred to what the plumbers are telling me at this job. Some offset drain situation (main drain to be 2 1/2 inches off-center to accomodate this drain) so a drain designed for a handicap lav can be used. Apparently it hangs real close to the wall to allow a wheelchair user to come close to the sink.

Hey jpplumbing,
You not only need to be concerned about the height of the rim but also the knee clearance beneath. If you set an ADA compliant sink just setting the rim to 34" should assure that your knee clearance is right. Do not assume you need to have all the measurements to be sure your within compliance. Here are the measurements and you can confirm them at http://www.ada.gov/stdspdf.htm. But what the hell do I know. Always check with your municipality, cause who can really trust what some anonymous guy in a plumbing forum gives for advice. Especially as critical as ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens have access to the simple things all others take advantage of. Hope this helps. Do the right thing.

4.24 Sinks

4.24..2 Height. Sinks shall be mounted with the counter or rim no higher than 34 in (865 mm) above finish floor.

4.24.3 Knee Clearance. Knee clearance that is at least 27 in (685 mm) high, 30 in (760 mm) wide, and 19 in (485 mm) deep shall be provided underneath sinks.
