Paper Corner Bead And Setting Compounds

I need to get some corner bead on in a hurry. My first idea was to use vinyl with spray glue, then two coats of sheet rock 45 and a final coat with all-purpose. I’ve heard that you should not use setting compounds with vinyl bead. Plus it’s on a low soffit in the middle of a room. So it’s only a matter of time before someone hits it with something and breaks a chunk out if it!
My other idea was to use paper bead set with sheet rock 45 and coated with all-purpose. I don’t know how it would hold up, but it seems that it would be a lot more durable and possibly faster.

Hoping to find out by tomorrow. Thanks!

Why cant you use setting compound with plastic beads?? im sure you meant plastic and not vinyl. I always use setting compound to lock in plastic beads setting compund sticks to just about any surface better than any other type of mud. it will stick to the bottom of a plastic bucket filled with water.

I've never heard that you can't use setting compound w/ plastic either. The only thing I can think of, is the heat generated could possibly warp the plastic. I've never had a problem w/ it though.

use paper.. use 20 min, don't coat over it with regular mud if damp or wet.. also dont use all purpose to coat, use regular plus 3..
