Work Pics......Finally!
This is from my first project (White Bear Ave.) in St.Paul. We had 7 (calender) days to complete this phase of the project. Sorry such a long wait for these.

Same job, looking toward South of intersection. Curb and gutter in, driveways done, and 90% of sidewalk complete. Had to wait on pavement till the intersection was closer to completion.

Re: Work Pics......Finally!
This was my Erosion control project. Started Nov 12th. We had 20 working days to complete the entire thing. We had to set 55 of these 16'x8' articulated block mats. Then tie each cable loop on each mat together, then pin the whole thing into the ground. Biggest problem was room for all the equipment in one small area!

Thanks for the pics of the engineered rip rap. I have never seen them used before.

Re: Work Pics......Finally!
Yep, I'm the guy that tore White Bear Ave/Maryland Ave intersection up! Well, I initiated it, the crew did the actual tearing up of things! I got to do the fun part (paper work)! The engineered rip-rap is not all that bad to work with. I didn't take pics of it but from the area pictured, the block mat goes down a 3/1 slope to the ditch bottom. They are a tad tricky to line up just right. MNDot in their special provisions specified (along with the manufacturer) that there be no more than a 2" gap between mats. Setting them actually works best with at least 3 people on the ground muscling the mat precisely into position so there are no gaps over 2". Clamping was the most time consuming since there are six loops on the long end and 4 on the short. Each loop must be clamped to the next mats loops (can't skip any). And in cold weather, those little clamps can't be manipulated too well with gloves on! I had 2 other guys strictly on the clamps. When we'd set a mat, they would ensure the loops didn't get caught underneath, then would clamp once set. To make matters a tad more complicated, MNDot wanted and extra layer of geotextile type IV blanket underneath the blanket the mats are fastened to. All of that type IV blanket then needed to be sewn, two stitches, one straight, the other a whip stitch. It was quite an interesting project!
