West Point Job

Here are a few pics of a 2000' Sewer Line Replacement job I did in West Point a few years back. I sure do miss my equipment, but not this job. There were so many abandoned Water, Gas and Electric lines under there. Then we had the gas and electric lines that were active but not located where marked. Not even close. The job HAD to be done during the winter as that was when the Cadets were not living there. It was as cold that winter as it is today up on that mountain! Would need an hour just to get all the equipment running in the mornings.

Manholes. There were 8 of them. Interesting fact. The section of sewer line we were tying into was actually elevated 4' above ground!

Nice pics. I take it that those lines weren't lamped since they are on a bend. Were they pressure tested ?

Nope! We used a 22 at the bend and kept the trench wide enough to run off center in part of the trench. Look closly just past the bend. That is High Voltage lines running through the trench. We were told by the Project Manager that they were imbedded in concrete. At the begining of this trench is a good example of the abandoned water lines that snaked all through this project. At the far end we found 2 gas lines sitting right under the blacktop!

This section was for sure. We had another section that we went down 10' in Wet Clay. Got a D6 stuck in the mud up there.

Take a close look at the duplicate pic (oops) That is a water main running right next to the manhole. We had to move the manhole over to make room for it. It actually went Through the manhole we were replacing. Anyone for some comments on our West Point engineers? I was told that this camp was actually built to hold and by Detainees during World War II
