Walls Poured

Out of the deep freeze and into warmer weather (40's) gave us a chance to get the foundation poured today. It took 68 cu.yds. of concrete placed in the forms using a concrete pump. 2006 Mack with a Putzmeister concrete boom and pump setup. This rig has a horizontal reach of 103' and according to operator under perfect conditions could put out 265 cu.yds./hr.(mixers would have to be waiting to unload) This outfit which our concrete sub owns 1/2 of has (4) of these trucks . Pretty expensive, the one pictured was $550,000K. They'll strip forms tomorrow, then sub will come in to spray walls, then I'll do drains and get it backfilled.

Good job Joe!

Will you have to take tomorrow off to rest your finger from taking the pictures?

Why did you park the Kobelco on top of the forms like that, were they afraid they would lift?

I never heard of that. Do you only put your gravel up to the top of the footing? I typically wrap my trench with filter fabric and bring the gravel up 24". Plus the masons are supposed to bond the joint between the footing and the wall with a 45 degree bond. Then the wall and footing are sprayed (and on my jobs, dimple board is applied) then we place filter fabric in the trench and up the walls then put in the gravel, pipe and more gravel.

Re: Walls Poured

Around here, after the masons put in the footers, we install the drains and place the stone in the footers level with the top of footer. After the walls are poured and tar'ed, then I lay fabric down and backfill. If we would place more stone and fabric around the foundation, it would raise the price of excavating. Builders like to do the mininum to keep the costs down. Basically, so they can put more money in their pocket.
