Rock Job... 56k take a nap

This is a foundation that we did about 1 month ago for a 2500 sq ft ranch. It was by far the worst one for the fact that the blaster did a horrible job. He charged the HO $22,000 and left me with boulders instead of powder. There was a house about 60' away, so I think that is why he held back on his blasting. Took me 70 hrs to dig and 1 complete set of bucket teeth. It was very abrasive rock. The driller went through a new bit every day. The blaster brought in his Hitatchi 228 with a hammer to help bust it up so that I could dig it. Of course, we had to run it.

Finished pics.......shelf in the back is a crawlspace and porch. They thought it was a good idea to make part of the basement crawlspace to save on blasting.

My boss dug a basement in "flinty chert" a few years ago and said a brand new set of 963C higlhlift bucket teeth were worn through by 9am. They installed a new set specifically due to the fact they new they were going to be in abrasive rock but know one expected the teeth to be gone in 2 hours. We've dug $50,000 basements before in rock (trackhoe with breaker and support equipment).

Ugh, what a pain.

You did a nice job with it, looks good.

Imagine that, all that rock wasted. Couldn't you put the big ones aside and call me?

The fact that the blasting company owns a hydra-hammer should have raised some concerns...
