Removing Fuel Tanks

pulled 2-6000 gallon tanks yesterday, 130 lbs dry ice per tank before we pulled them. boy that stuff sure works good for that. farmer is going to cut them in half and use them for calf shelters.

we put them in about 10 yrs ago. it's my understanding, that once tanks are taken from the ground, they have to be decommisioned. the owner of this property retired, didn't update anything.....and the big C-store across the street bought it up to protect their interests in this busy intersection. it's my understanding they have no interest on selling gas on the corner, some other use, not saying yet. but i guess if they get the tanks out of the ground, insure site is clean, which it was....they can drop some liability ins. policy for that.

Re: Removing Fuel Tanks

What's the dry ice for?
Does it kill the fumes or something?

Read my post here.
http://www.contractortalk.com/f62/qu...l-tanks-57510/

The dry ice turns into carbon dioxide as it melts, this displaces the oxygen in the tank. Without oxygen the fumes cannot explode, catch fire, etc.

I'm glad you were able to move all the rocks out of the way so the picture wasn't all cluttered up with them.

Yeah.........I was thinking that every picture Day posts looks like a well groomed sandbox. Some guys get all the good jobs, and leave all the rocks, stumps, sticky clay, and sloppy mud to guys like me!!!
