Pea Stone Driveway
Yep, that's what I said. These guys went to town next door "fixing" the driveway. Maybe I don't understand something the HO's thinking. This is going to end up all over the lawn when they plow in the winter. First person who drove in got slippery on the marbles in the driveway.
What do you guys think? Not so bad? Ridiculous? This is never going to pack down is it?

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
I've seen that on large European estates. Some show on HGTV. Usually there is a gardener that rakes it perfectly smooth after a car drives over it.

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
I have never seen these pea gravel areas work out well. For foot traffic I guess they are ok.
Maybe if they put down a tar binder it might not be so bad, but it could like like crap. A customer forced me to put in a small drive lane in for him with this stuff, then complained about getting stuck in the gravel.

Isn't pea gravel 97% packed as it layes? So it won't ever pack.

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
2 years ago I did a river rock driveway. 120 feet long, 15 feet wide out on old Highway 95. 35 yards of rock at a cost of $4500 installed. It was absolutely stunning. The next week the HO had me remove it and replace it with 3/4 gravel at a cost of $11,800. Just too damn bumpy and slippery. It was beautiful though.

I see people doing this all the time. I just shake my head as I drive by.

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
It will pack down, a block border is prefered with this type of driveway to retain the stone. Also, in the winter the base will freeze and unless the plow operator really digs in, the driveway will be ok. G

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
It's not a practical application. soon the home owners will be kicking themselves in the butt. In a couple of years all of that stone will probably find its way into a garden area of the property.

Re: Pea Stone Driveway
Good news is that when they have to get out of the stuck car, they will have a soft landing as they stumble and fall
