Marilyn Monroe Bungalow Demo.

Here is a job that I am currently working on at the Hotel Bel Air. They are putting in a new 2 story spa building and gym. The small bungalow that I demolished is where Marilyn Monroe had once stayed and was turned into a small gym back in the 80's or 90's.

This has been an interesting job so far do to its history, high profile location, and the existing utilities that could not be shut off due to the fact that the entire hotel is still using them. Mainly the issue is the gas main feeding the boilers for the heating system and the circulatory heating system pipes which are feeding the entire hotels heating needs.

In several of the photos you will see the gas main which was adjacent to the bungalow and bolted to the wall. I had to demo this building without shutting the system down or demolishing the gas main.

In some of the other photos you will see a 4" pvc pipe that I hit while removing asphalt. This pipe is one of the circulatory lines for the heating system. I nicked the the pipe putting a golf ball sized hole in it. Warm water began bubbling up immediately. The reason that I hit the pipe was because it was directly under the asphalt at the joint. It wasn't buried at all! You can see the melted asphalt on the pipe. This was a major problem. It was 2 p.m. and was starting to rain. Nobody had any repair parts. We found the piece that had chipped off and patched it back on. It still leaked but it was able to function again until the next day when it was properly repaired.
Two of the rooms had issues with no heat that night.

Besides this problem, everything has gone pretty smoothly so far.

Here is a link the the album if you want to see all the photos and some video. http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...l%20Bel%20Air/

If those walls could talk!!!

You have salvage rights? Sell pieces of the room on E-bay, some die hards will want a piece of Marilyn's history

I thought about salvaging something but I just don't have the time to deal with it and its just kinda weird. There just wasn't much to salvage anyways.

We have been very busy with just a few days off here and there do to the rain. I guess we are some of the lucky few that are keeping busy around here. Most of our jobs are for rich people building a custom home or completely remodeling an old home. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work on these homes because they are just so much work for us. Most people hate the rich, but I appreciate them. They support my family with the work they give us and I am very grateful. We are not doing this work for low wages either. We probably charge more than 95% of the guys in our area.

Eric:

Is the bungalow all gone, or anything left. I could come and pick it up and sell if for you, pay you a commission for pieces of the bungalow. Let me know, man. thanks.
