Forestry Mulching Before And After

Hello World,

First post. Thought I'd share some before and after mulching pictures. We, KW Land Works, clear a lot of brush and trees for residential customers but do some forestry and habitat restoration work too.

Before:

After:

More before and after mulching pictures at Pictures.

We run a Cat 297 and CMI C175, both with cimaf mulching heads. Love em.

More pictures to come.

Jim

Nice, how does your equipment compare to Fecon?

Two guys I know have Fecon's out here and they are awesome....

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

I'm not a big fan of Fecon stuff. We run Denis Cimaf heads and they are the hot ticket for above ground mulching. Fecon's copy of the Cimaf head is having some trouble. However, the carbide heads that fecon makes seem to be well respected. I'd still take a good look at an FAE or Seppi before buying a carbide head from fecon.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

Our logger uses a Timco feller with a macerator attachment for cleaning up thinning areas for fire and disease prevention. Logging usually does a pretty good job of cleaning too. Unfortunately fire also does too good of a job, in which we lost a lot of trees. We always leave the BIGGEST trees for propagation.

Before and after photoo's ain't werkin' fer me. Something about a security token missing. Oh well, it looks like a forest.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

Lets see if I can post photos today. Appears to be working

This is all part of our Certified Tree Farm. As much as we would like to keep people employed logging and thinning, there is no market for pulp, and barely for trees. They are cutting hard on forest service land which the mills get the wood for change on the dollar. Our logger has all his equipment except his feller onsite (Working on it at his shop), but until the mill increases pricing we are on hold.

We have plenty of grass land so no need to make more, we want every producible tree we can get. In fact after the forest fire we ordered 10,000 trees, but were lucky to get 1,000 new trees. I sprayed around them a couple weeks ago to help them grow and not compete with giant weeds after this last years severe rain/snow. Lost a road to a slide too.

The last pic is the masticator that goes onto the Timco feller. Although forests look rough after mulching in a couple years they will look great!

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

More KW Land Works Forestry Mulching before and afters.

On this episode we've cut trails for access so that a retention pond maintenance company can start cleaning out a ridiculously overgrown retention pond at an apartment complex in Pensacola. We hauled our equipment from Panama City and it took longer to get there than to do the job but that's the cost of business. Off to Niceville to mulch a pile of debris and then Walton County for a clear cut for Construction Services Company.

A recent lot we mowed brush and trees on with the forestry mulcher before the excavation contractor showed up. Saved them an estimated week and a half. Also reduced their haul burden by about half.

The haul burden reduction is pretty attractive. Great work.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

More before during and afters. We cleared the underbrush and a lot of the large trees on this one acre home site. We do quite a bit of lot clearing in this neighborhood and this is the best looking one yet.

The stumps will need excavation at the home site but clearing all of the junk trees out of the way lets the homeowner see their property in a new view, thanks to our brush and tree clearing equipment. More forestry mulching pictures NW Florida, South Alabama and SW Georgia to come.

Here's a video of the machine running at half effort. Not impressive compared to when it's in high flow but neat none the less.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

wouldn't an excavator/dozer and a chain saw be MUCH quicker? 4 1/2 minutes to knock down a dead tree...and the stump and the trunk is still there.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

Perhaps. But that's two pieces of equipment and you'd also need a dump truck to haul it off. That's why excavation is around 10k an acre and we can clear for about a tenth the cost.

That said, if the stump needs to come out, an excavator needs to be on site either way. We still save the customer on the bottom line since there's less volume to haul away. Also keep in mind that the Cat was running at about half power in that video.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

This time we got called out to a quail plantation north of Tallahassee in Monticello. They'd drained a cypress pond and had most of the timber cut out (I think law states you have to leave one standing at a minimum density). They were left with waist high stumps and, after a year, were resprouting. The dog fennel hid most of them so it looks like we just mowed a field of wet grass. Surprisingly only got stuck once thanks to the low ground pressure of the CMI and the single grousers that never stop pulling. Brush clearing service pictures below.

Re: Forestry Mulching Before And After

More before and after pictures from a job in Ponce De Leon Florida. The land owner has a vacation home that is the meeting place for a 60 person thanksgiving dinner every other year. We were called in to mow the brush, bushes and vines that had grown up under a mature pine stand. Another forestry mowing success story.
