driven piles

I've been working a pile driving job recently. Wondering if any of you guys have experience or interest in this. I'll post pics if there's an interest.

ch0mpie,

What Horsepower are the piles?

Are they automatic or standard transmission?

Do you have really heavy rears in them? #65,000?

What color are they?

Do they have air conditioning?

first the load test. Looking for 90 tons, got 70. NYC code requires tests to go to 200% of the design load and to be held for 96 hours. Piles are tapered steel filled with concrete.

Rig is a Junttan. The hammer is hydralic, rated for about 55 ft-kips, but we were only using a 2 ft stroke.

we got to drive a few piles right next to this building, but only because its being demo'ed soon. Bricks were falling off the wall while we were driving

rino, piles are for support of an apartment building, I think 26 stories, but I don't remember.

Neolitic, heres a transcript of the audio: "bang..bang..bang..bang..:repeat for 7hours 59mins 55secs:"

Oooh, the sound track is "pounded"
into my memory!
I can still remember the first time
on one of Dad's jobs with a steam hammer!
That's a sound you don't forget.
Like the sound of an old Deere one lunger.
Except not as pleasant.
