Hey Day, how are you liking that Case ?? What size is it again ?? My one friend just picked up a Case 240 at a auction.
I see that you seperated the topsoil too. Good thinking. Also, what is the trenchbox for, why are you so deep ??

that case is a hot rod, unbelieveable how fast of a machine it is...little tough on fuel, 5.9 cummins...8.5 gals an hr...but it rocks!...we love it, think the hyundai will go and replace it with a 240 or 210 case....where we're digging is a new industrial development site, the water main is going behind the curbline, we have to maintain a 7.5' of cover on the pipe, engineer sets stakes for us.....have to save topsoil to be replaced behind curb. my kid is driving me nuts, workin my arse off. he hops in the machine before sunsup, gets me behind backfilling 200' plus by the time he wants to go home, leaving me to stay everynite with lights catching up. LOL

Question Day. For your bedding material, do you hire out a private contractor or do you just have the quarry bring it in ??
Also, since there isn't much rock out there, how far is the quarry from you. I'd imagine that prices for stone out there are expensive.

Doesn't look like he needs a bedding material from the pics. That buttom layer looks like a sandy/gravel.

looks like a sweet job, ideal conditions for a straight run, aside from the depth of course. out of curiosity how many feet were you guys getting in a day? i can't remember the last time i was on a job that had that kind of room to work with.
