Wow Day, you did a real nice job digging that foundation with that shovel.

No Mr. Day, that is a stone! Like one that you could get caught it the tread of your boot! That's a stone. Put some fertilizer on it and add water, in 30 years you might have a rock!

Nice looking trucks and trailer!

More than likely that is a chunk of concrete wash out, from the sidewalk that was busted, that Day will have to pay for.

Very nice foundation hole, Your son dig that one?

Nice truck too!

Day, that crawl looks like you could shoot pool
on it.
Do you pour the footing too?
Does every one there form up for the
footer pour?
Or will you dig for the ribbons?

"Ribbon" footings.
Thanks for the reply. We used to form
when I was a kid and dirt was new.
Most excavating guys here dig and pour.
And it's mostly "trench formed".
Interesting to see how it goes round the country.

Still a purty hole.

In my area, nobody does that. IMO, it is just too much work for what it is worth to dig trenches for the footers. My buddy used to work for a company that would dig 4" trenches, then put the stone in the middle and use the stone as a form for the last 4".

BTW, I thought that code requires any footers that has living space above it has to be formed ??

They are, they're earth formed, trench formed,
or another term which escapes me now.
I think the code language is something like
"where conditions are appropriate..."
Which means good clay, and that we have
in plenty.
Folks used to do "push outs", then form up,
but now that is rare as 39¢ gas.
We generally dig the footer with a 24" bucket
and pour, then come back the next day
and dig out the crawl and drop in pea fill
cover.

Where are the rocks?

Where did you get all the operators?

Good luck with the project.

Re: Another Day At The Office

Nick and Rino,
this is a 6500 c.y. dig/fill project. office addition to our local municipal utilities building. we hired the haul in of granular, and haul away of the crap dirt. only had to hire one additional guy to drive one of my trucks. the roller is a rental, and it is SWEET! 8" lifts with moisture at optimum, 2 passes, have density.

wouldn't justify it here, but would be nice to have one of those mini site crushers for the asphalt...we have about 80k sq ft to remove, haul away. be nice to save the trucking in/out...crush onsite and reuse it here
