Another day in the life.....

A water line and utility service we are doing. First pass is 30" deep with a 39" bucket. Second machine is going 5' deep with a 12" bucket. Seems to be working pretty slick so far.

day,

The actual room to put the lines is very tight. The water table is down 3' 6".
The ground is very stable down to 3 feet. Once disturbed below that it caves in quickly. The water line has to be 4' 6" min. Power needs to be 2' 6". Power and water need to be 18" apart and 18" above.

Dig and backfill of the 12" down to finish depth is fast, neet and quick to backfill back up to 2' 6". And not generating a lot of mushy material. using very little sand. Inspector wants 6" sand below and over water.

It's kind of fun too.

Looks like you need to reverse the order of the machines.........the little guy looks like he barely has the track width to keep him out of the trench!!! That is the slick way of doing it and works real nice if you have a pair of guys gluing and dropping the conduit/pipe in as you go in case of minor caving. I like seeing the older iron still being used. I've seen new stuff that is so beat that well maintained older stuff will run circles around it.
