Talking By the inch?

BTW WOOT we have some where to talk! LOL

Thanks for adding this section.

My question to any other welders out there, Do you charge by the Inch for small jobs or by the Hour.

I have always charged by the job and by the hour for big jobs, usualy come out ahead when charging by the hour in the long run it seems, but have toyed with the idea of by the inch work, I have know a few welders that do, and love it.

What works best for you?

I am not a welder but if some one needs something small done I will charge by the whole thing.

It has worked good for me.

I have calulated some projects for our customers by the inch in the past, but it always seemed to produce a number that would put my pricing signifigantly outside of the market. So all my estimating is based on a man hour budget along with material costs. We give the estimate up front, and if the customer approves, then we move forward.

We also do quite a bit of T&M work, and this too is charged based on hours worked, material costs, and a daily/weekly rate we charge for the equipment we had to provide to complete the work.

I know some guys/companies do charge by the inch, but I'm sure it wouldn't work for us-

Cliff
