Cole,

You should check out the Nachi.org forum site. The guys have an incredible amount of knowledge about all sorts of things, or at least the ones that take the time to post frequently.

Other inspector organizations defame the Nachi requirements, but from what I have seen from members in other organizations, it really is all about the man earning the credentials, not the test that he took.

There are other sources I could refer you to, but for a quick start, I would definitely recommend those guys just to check out.

The main complaint that I have about the organization, is the thin skinned nature that the leadership has regarding anyone who posts on their forum who is certified by another organization.

If they debate ones merits compared to each other, rather than just moderate the offending posters, they censored the entire forum on non-members at one stroke.

Most of the members there thought that was an act of sheer idiocy, but the leadership felt that it was necessary.

Hi Ed,

I know she was away from her desk a good part of the day, I'll remind her tomorrow.

The posting problems you experienced were unfortunate. I've been posting on that site since 2001 and I must say, I was really tired of the nastiness and excessive drama.
Most of those years I was against a moderated board and so was the founder, but all that nastiness was driving away good inspectors who refused to post because they didn't want to be attacked personally by those who thought no one had a right to have an opinion if it didn't agree with theirs.
It's too bad, especially when it causes problems for those whose posts are valuable, like yours, but I'm glad to see those people gone. They seldom posted about inspection and what they had to say was almost always negative and they seemed to spend all their time on the boards.

I am not going to drag this on Kenton, but my only point was, that a proper job of regular moderating and if required, banning the flaming or non-informative posters, would have eliminated them from ever becoming a problem in the first place.

Look at the size of this forum compared to there.

If there were some "Member" designation and all others were required to be moderated before they went through, the site would stagnate immediately.

In my observer opinion, I "Think" that the amount of posts by the members still on the board has decreased since that decision was put into effect.

I waited 3 days before one of my posts got entered.

I lost the gist of that threads evolution, by being put off on the side line.

It may have even been in your Roofing Question Thread. Then, when I went to attach some photos to make the point explicitly clear, I discovered that the attachment feature was not enabled for me anymore.

I know that is all getting taken care of for me, but I still feel the angst of others enduring this policing of every post made. My goal, is for that forum to remain viable and grow due to popularity and educational experiences, just from being involved in it.

Ed

PS
When posting attachments, could you see if they could increae the size limit.

Even for my avatar, I reduced it down to 10% of what I have on several other private forums, and it was still too large for the space allotment.

Attachments are 640x480, but avatars are miniscule. There's probably a reason, but I don't know what it is. Chris Morell handles the boards, but he's always swamped.. chris@internachi.org

It seems like everytime I get a call from a home vestor, they are always asking if I know any good home inspectors.

I will update this thread and let everyone know how it goes, if anyone cares.
How long will it take to get certified from start to finish!
