My First 24 Ton Rated Floor System

I am drawing up plans for a beer and wine place where the wine racks upstairs might reach 48,000 lbs. Here's the in progress design so far.

I won't be building it so I might not get any actual pics from the site.

And, no, they don't pay in beer.

Any way to figure the potential point load for each foot on the racks? I'm just wondering if a rack leg couldn't poke through whatever the proposed decking will be.

Good point if the wine racks have legs and land between joists, that's a lot of weight, I see the closer joist spacing, I'm curious, legs landing on joists? No legs? "sleepers" under wine racks? Thicker than standard sub-flooring? Cement floor?

Though two layers of ¾ ply springs to mind,
I think he covered it in the floor section.

I am going to suggest C channel steel tracks...so the weight is even over all the joists.

MD - yeah, around 300 lbs per sq. in. Almost as bad as a woman's high heels

Not so bad, then. It wasn't clear from the couple drawings I clicked on how many legs were on each rack and what the foot profile was like.

No it's not two layers, I missed one of his drawings.

Here's what he's doing, load distributing tracks (sleepers):

Re: My First 24 Ton Rated Floor System

I feel like I'm presenting my thesis before the review board. Kinda cool.

I like having multiple sets of experienced eyes look things over for FREE just in case I missed something.

MD - if my dwgs weren't clear to you...I need to know that. Thanks. I'll make things more clear for the bldr.

It's info like that that helps me understand and learn what I need to include to make it clear for everyone. (Since I've worked on this for 8 hours, it all seems obvious to me...go figure.) Typically I am building what I draw, so my info is 80% on the drawing and 15% in my head.

Thanks everyone.

Mike

Funny! Before I made it to the PS, I'm sitting there going, hey, he's missing something!

You're doing good if it's only 5%, man. Having those detailed drawings would certainly help define the actions needed to accomplish the project...you do some nice CAD work, it's good seeing you make cash off that as well as building.

Good on ya, man!
