I know this is fun but the OP hasn't been back in two weeks. I think he got the message.

Re: Advice On Building Bridge

Clearly the OP probably wasn't ready to undertake such a project But in case anyone else is in a similar position in future.....

Building a bridge is not dissimilar to building any other type of construction project, as long as you are familiar with the type of construction methods employed. If you're not, you either need to bid the job with a sub who is familiar, or walk away.

The other side to this question is that the bridge is D&C. As a GC in these types of bids, you need to partner with a design consultant. If you develop a good relationship with one, they'll usually prepare rough sketches and spec without charge (on the understanding that if you win the job they will get the design contract), so that you have enough information to price. You also need to assess and mitigate the extra risk associated with the limited information at hand and discern the boundaries of variation to scope as opposed to just flexibility in design.

Dude that is a sweet lunchbox. They sure don't make them like they used too. I remember my He-man luchbox. I was going to buy a metal one for my kid but now a days they are made all chinese and sh!t. Couldn't knock out a bully with one let alone a girl scout.

Back to why I think that box is cool. When ever a ole guy starts in with back in my day we did like this. I say you remember the episode when Beaver Cleaver got his head stuck in the fence picking daisies. That usually puts a stop to a back in the day story.

Re: Advice On Building Bridge

Here's my contribution to the bridge photo collection.

This collapse happened in November 2007 on a rural road in Southern Ontario. There were 15 workers on-site pouring concrete for the top deck when the entire centre section gave way and collapsed into the river. Six were injured; fortunately no one was killed. The job was already 10 weeks behind schedule and the GC was being penalized $1,000 a day. It's been more than a year-and-a-half and it's still under investigation.

Wheww... not insured through my brokerage; guess our competitor is the one sweating over this claim.
