Where Was Stuff Like This When I Was A Finisher?

Our flatwork crew (I use that term loosely-they ain't poured a flat floor since the day before they bought pans for the riders) brought out their newest labor-saving device the other day. The Copperhead. A self-propelled laser screed for slab on decks. It works alright, but it still takes just as many guys as hand screeding. This deck is about 10,000 sq ft. I have to laugh. When I was a kid, 5 or 6 of us could hand rod and hand finish a slab this size then go get drunk and do it again the next day. Now, nobody even breaks a sweat.

If they had things like this back then, I might be able to stand up straight today.

Great Pictures, now all you need is one of those radio controlled power trowels to finish the slab. Has anyone heard anything about them, I am looking but am afraid to make the purchase without talking to someone who owns one.

We actually use a copperhead for any slab pours that allow it, if you get used to working with it one guy running the screed and two raking behind it should be plenty. We've had some of our flattest floors poured that way, then again we've had a few that have had more than their share of low spots. The main benefit i've noticed is cutting down on the man power of putting in grade points in a slab, and we can have more guys drop back to start finishing since it doesn't require as much manpower.
