Stupid Question About Drain Holes In Built Up Walk
Hey~I have a home owner who refuses to let me buildup the dirt in a recessed area flanked by walkway that is a good 7 inches empty because she thinks the 3 inch drainhole at that depth will not drain if I do so. I am a landscaper and have never seen a situation like this where you couldn't build up the interior, but she has me worried as she seems like she could turn into a problem customer if by any chance I am wrong here. I thought about throwing crushed rock in just in case..anybody out there know the answer to this?

Unless you can convince her that what you will be doing is 100% proper and can put her at ease with the work, I would have to refer back to the old saying "The customer is always right"

Re: Stupid Question About Drain Holes In Built Up Walk
Ok..maybe I overstated the refused to part..she thought because the last owner never filled over that depth, she couldn't either. I had a rock mason here with 40 years experience that just shook his head and said..not a problem..it will drain perfectly. Unfortunately this homeowner has turned kinda bi-polar on another subject..so not wanting to give her any possible source of added anxiety..still wanting not to give in to the no brainer aspect..if indeed it is obvious to you guys who do this for a living. Would like at least one more qualified opinion. I mean everything slopes away from the house..the walk is elevated with a hole going horizontally to the other side where it spills out onto the lawn. I have done french drains and know there is another way..but don't want to add to the expense as we are locked in on the bid.

If as you say it will drain "perfectly" and there is no other issue such as grading above a foundation vent, window, weep holes in a wall or raising the grade too close to wood framing of the house, I'd say go for it.
