standard driveway install

have a question on how much modified should be placed and compacted, hoe much base coat and how much top coat. Just getting thru bad experience with a failed driveway and want to get it right this time.

Put in 4" of base and 3 1/2" of concrete. The area up through the sidewalk should be 6" thick to take care of trucks turning around, etc.

Pour it to last

2 inches of compact base. I mean COMPACT BASE will be sufficient. If you don't have a compactor, rent one. 4 in of 3500 p.s.i. fiber reinforced concrete will be sufficient. Hire finishers that know what they are doing and cut your expansion joints at least an inch thick every 12 to 14 feet or so.

I always used 6" minimum modified for residential 1-1/2" base then 1" top. I made sure I was around when the tri-axles were coming in and out to watch for any excessive movement and had those areas excavated deeper to get rid of any bad fill and potential problems. All trenches were filled with clean 2b or compacted modified.
