Removing Blue Chalk Lines?
I can chalk lines in fine mist and they usually wash away before I'm done. When I chalk lines on dry concrete and get a fine mist at night I can't get the lines out. Need to get them out before I seal. Powerwasher didn't do it. Anyone have any ideas or chemical to get them out without hurting the concrete?

Titanium Dioxide, Line Chalk, is a PERMENENT dye! (on a porous surface). Spilled a bottle in a Taco Bell parking lot in 2001. Still threre in 2005!

Re: Removing Blue Chalk Lines?
Just a hint for the future. Get a new box, not preloaded, and fill with talc. You can also replace that cheap line with 130-250# braided Dacron fishing line. You can pull this REALLY tight and it snaps a clean, removable line.
Obviously, this does not work that well on white walls but its fine for everything else.

This is just an idea and I know this does`nt help you with your present problem. Its just a rider to Teetorbilt`s suggestion. What about using the kids street chalk comes in all colours just run your line though a stick of chalk. My kids use it in the yard when it rains it`s gone just an idea try it out some where first.

Re: Removing Blue Chalk Lines?
They sell StraitLine white chalk
in bottles right along side the red, blue and orange stuff. I've had at least one box for each of the four longer than I care to remember. Right tool, right place, right time.

Re: Removing Blue Chalk Lines?
Any product using hydrochloric acid will work. Home Depot and Lowes both carry products using hydrochloric acid. I would recommend a 10:1 mixing ratio. Make the solution a bit stronger for tougher stains. Put your water in first then mix in the product. Keep a hose or preferably a power washer near by. Use a scrub brush and apply the solution liberally in the areas that you're trying to clean. The chalk will begin to disappear, you dont need to scrub very hard. Rinse the area with fresh water immediately. Do a small area at a time. It works like a charm!

Are you suggesting using muriatic acid on a decorative piece of concrete right before he would seal it? I sure as heck wouldn't. For this very reason, I use white chalk on any deco. concrete. Normally blue or white on standard concrete, but I always cure/seal before sawing & snapping. I learned this leason many years ago, with a red chalk line that I couldn't get rid of. I ended up snapping a white/black chalk mix over the top & sealing it in. Last edited by jomama; 06-21-2010 at 10:08 AM. |

Re: Removing Blue Chalk Lines?
Talk about reviving and old thread! I ended up using a dremil tool with a tiny wire wheel to take the line out. This was on colored, broomed concrete.
