Raising Height Of Existing Asphalt Driveway
I have a customer that needs to raise the height of their asphalt driveway to aleviate some drainage issues. Their question to me was, can they add stone over the existing driveway and repave or do they have to rip out the existing asphalt first? They need to raise it at least 6", so it wouldn't be cost affective to build it up with blacktop.
I am not in the blacktop business, so I don't know the correct answer. |

Re: Raising Height Of Existing Asphalt Driveway
I would think that if you used a packer as you laid your base down it would be okay. I would hate to disturb a packed base underneath the old blacktop by ripping the old up.

Re: Raising Height Of Existing Asphalt Driveway
If you had said they needed to raise it more than 1 foot I would say go for it with a lift of stone.
But to do it right you would need stone base and 3" + 2" asphalt, any thing less just won't hold up. Spend the extra for more base asphalt is my opinion. |
