Polished Concrete Floor & Radiant Heat

Greetings.

This is an interior application.

I'm installing a 2" thick concrete slab over an existing concrete slab which is going to be polished. First I'll be installing radiant heating with thin set mortar, then going over the top of the radiant heat with my 2" slab and then polish. I'm concerned about the new slab only being 2" being prone to excessive cracking. Is there something I could add to the mix to minimize the cracking?

And why is the new slab only 2"? I have to match the existing floor height.

Thank you experts!

# 4 rebar laid on floor spaced out with flat sheet wire tied to it, fibermesh , a liquid polymer you can add right into the ready mix truck or a spray on. , or 4000 lb concrete are all options. How heavy is the polishing machine? 2in is more of a counter top thickness. I usually try to cap a min of 3in if possible so I can use the bigger aggregate. Use a straight edge to place so the grinder is grinding a flat plane rather than trying to make one.

Hi. You might want to check out our page regarding the process. Can't post URLs yet, but it's in my signature.

Cheers!

If you don't want cracking, then suring is very important. When the concrete is drying it is shrinking towards the middle. By keeping the moisture within the concrete you can help minimise cracking immensely.
Cover the concrete with black plastic for as long as possible.

We don't polish our slabs until at least 30 days after pouring to ensure the concrete is fully set.
