Paving Machine Rules Of Thumb
Are there any rules of thumb for the paving machine so as to not leave a big pile at the end of the pull? For example, how many feet should I stop feeding asphault to the auger prior to the end of the pull depending on the depth of the asphault being laid? Any tips for offsets and going around bends other than doing it by hand?

Re: Paving Machine Rules Of Thumb
Realizing this is an old post but I am a new member to the site I thought I may be able to help.
I dont know what kind of paver you have or at what thickness, but at 2 inches we generally start to gauge it by 1 machine length then modify as needed from there. We use a BK 171a. We always had BK machines. As for trying to reduce hand work it all depends again on what type of paver. With the BK there is always alot of hand work on residential drives especialy, but I prefer the rubber tires so we suck it up. I see alot of guys with lee boys. Looks like a great machine but again I dont like track pavers. But I do see these guys with these lee Boy machines and wow, they do very little by hand. Re: Paving Machine Rules Of Thumb
All depend on your depth you are running. You can cut down on handwork if your paver had wideners on it. I always use a track paver, can get out of corners better and don't stay stuck.
