Moisture Barrier

As a flooring guy we get lots of problems from moisture. Does anyone have a way to check if the moisture barrier is intact without major demo?

Re: Moisture Barrier

Just off hand I would say that if you have alot of moisture problems, what difference would it make if the vapor barrier is in place or not? You still have to remedy the problem, No?

But to answer the question I have no way of knowing if the poly is in place with out doing some demo, you could core drill. As small as 1" or 2" core should be enough to see if the poly is under the slab. I would not consider that "major" demolition.

Re: Moisture Barrier

Well the point is if it is the moisture barrier it is not my fault. If the moisture barrier is intact then it might be my fault.

Purley a CYA issue. Not an operational issue. No problem to fix just I want to know whose fault (real liable) it is.

Re: Moisture Barrier

I understand.

I would say the small core drill would be the easiest way to verify the poly below slab. The problem is that just because it may be present where you take a sample, does not mean it is present everywhere or that it is installed correctly.

Good luck sorting it out.
